On January 31, 2012 Senator Jerry Moran spoke at a briefing on Capitol Hill about the importance of preserving unlicensed spectrum. Senator Moran highlighted the fact that leaving a portion of spectrum for unlicensed use will enable companies to innovate in that space and those companies will then add jobs and grow the economy. Senator Moran said he believes that unlicensed spectrum provides an incredible opportunity to enable innovation, to increase competition, and to expand broadband.

Public Knowledge Legal Director, Harold Feld, testified before the House Energy and Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Communications and Technology about the value of the White Spaces and the importance of unlicensed spectrum in fostering innovation. More
On C-SPAN’s “The Communicators” program, FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell discussed the issue of unlicensed use of TV white spaces and expressed his support for protecting unlicensed airwaves. More
The Wireless Innovation Alliance (WIA) is a broad-based group of innovators, providers, consumer groups, think tanks and education organizations that believe that more efficient use and expanded access to the nation’s spectrum resources are fundamental to the future of U.S. economic policy and global competitiveness, and that we face potential spectrum scarcities in both licensed and unlicensed bands that must be addressed in order for innovation and investment to move forward.
